FAQ
About the Free Gold Kit
Is the postal gold kit really free?
Yes. The kit, postage, insurance and return delivery (if you decline our offer) are all completely free. There are no hidden fees at any stage.
Why do you offer the kit for free?
We want to make selling gold as easy and risk-free as possible. A free kit removes the barriers and lets you try our service with no obligation.
What does the kit include?
Your kit contains a prepaid Royal Mail Special Delivery envelope, a tamper-proof gold bag, a valuation form and a simple step-by-step guide.
Sending Your Gold
Is it safe to send gold through the post?
Yes. We use Royal Mail Special Delivery Guaranteed, the service Royal Mail recommends for valuables. It includes tracking, a signature on delivery and compensation cover.
How much insurance is included?
Your Special Delivery envelope includes Royal Mail compensation up to £2,500. If your items are worth more than £2,500, please contact us before posting and we will arrange higher cover.
Do I need to weigh or value my gold before sending it?
No. Our team handles all weighing, testing and valuation once your items arrive.
Can I send multiple items?
Yes. You can send as many gold items as you like in one kit (see the insurance limit above).
Can I send silver, platinum or other metals?
Yes, we buy most precious metals. If you are unsure, check our gold eligibility guide.
Valuation & Pricing
How do you calculate the value of my gold?
We test the purity (carat), weigh each item and calculate your offer from the gold market price at the time of valuation. You receive a breakdown of weight, purity and value.
Why is my offer lower than the spot price?
The spot price is the wholesale price of pure, refined bullion. Jewellery and scrap gold has to be tested and refined first, so every gold buyer pays below spot. See today's gold price for more detail.
Do you price match?
Yes. If another UK gold buyer gives you a higher written quote for the same items, dated within the last 30 days, we'll match it at today's gold price. Just send us a copy of the quote.
Do you pay for gemstones?
No. We pay for the precious metal only. Gemstones are not included in our offer and are not returned if you accept it, so please have any stones you want to keep removed before sending. If you decline our offer, your items come back with their stones in place.
Do you buy broken or damaged jewellery?
Yes. Condition doesn't matter. We buy broken, tangled and scrap gold.
Do you buy unhallmarked gold?
Yes. We test every item with XRF equipment to confirm its purity, so a hallmark isn't needed.
Will you contact me before paying me?
Yes. You receive your valuation first, and payment is only made once you accept the offer.
Payments
How quickly will I be paid?
We pay the same working day you accept your offer.
What payment methods do you offer?
Bank transfer as standard (the fastest option). PayPal or cheque are available on request. There is no charge for any payment method.
Is there any obligation to accept the offer?
No. If you decline, we return your items free of charge by Royal Mail Special Delivery.
Returns & Declined Offers
What happens if I don't accept the valuation?
We return your items free of charge by Royal Mail Special Delivery within 5 working days.
Will my items be returned in the same condition?
Yes. Our XRF testing is non-destructive. If an item ever needs a test that could mark it, such as cutting or acid testing, we will ask you first and only go ahead with your agreement.
Do you charge a return fee?
Never. Returns are always free, including any items that turn out not to be gold.
